Elective Surgery and the DHB - What is our role?

The purpose of this session is to discuss the difficulty of elective surgical provision in NZ and the different approaches that DHBs are utilising. The session will be opened by the MOH discussing the background of elective targets and answering the question "what does the MOH want from Orthopaedic surgeons and their DHBs?" 1000 -1020 – Ministry of Health, Jill Lane, Director, Service Commissioning 1020 -1040 – Elective targets in the NHS – Tim Briggs 1040 -1100 – Healthcare USA; The Promise and the Reality - Stu Weinstein 1100 - 1230 - Elective Surgery in NZ Seminar Chair – Richard Nicol Panel/Speakers – Gary Hooper (Christchurch), Matt Walker (North Shore), Mark Wright (Auckland), Dawson Muir (Tauranga). Each speaker will have 5 minutes to outline the provision of elective surgery in their DHB. The brief to the Chair is to stimulate discussion about the different approaches and to highlight and discuss the issues raised during this discussion.
