 Dr Fiona Moir 

  Director, Connect Communications; Senior Lecturer,              Communication Skills and Mental Health,
  University of Auckland, NZ

Fiona trained in the UK and went on to work as a GP in New Zealand, with a special interest in mental health. She is a Director of Connect Communications, a medical education company which designs and facilitates self-care, supervision and communication skills programmes for health professionals and their organisations. Recently Connect have undertaken several projects with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand, such as developing a mental health framework for New Zealand Veterinary teams. They have also worked regularly with the Medical Council of New Zealand and the New Zealand Pharmaceutical Society.

For over a decade. Fiona also has a part-time role as a Senior Lecturer at The University of Auckland. Within this job, she has developed SAFE-DRS, a Health and Wellbeing curriculum for medical students, and has created comprehensive pastoral care policies and care pathways for the medical school, as well as leading some wider student wellbeing work across the University

Fiona also researches and publishes in the area of practitioner wellbeing with a focus on burnout prevention, safe and professional working environments and educational interventions. She worked for many years as the Director of Student Affairs at the Auckland Medical School, a role which encompassed supporting individual students with complex needs, involvement with fitness-to-practice issues, student advocacy and return-to-work programmes.

Prof Carrie Newlands

Consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery 

Professor Carrie Newlands is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMFS) in Guildford and has co-authored  several national guidelines on skin cancer, in which she clinically specialises.

She teaches at the University of Surrey Medical School and is Co-investigator on a national RCT into the management of high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

Carrie is the former Chair of the OMFS FRCS examination Board, and co-led the eFace project, the eLearning for Health resource for OMFS.

She works with the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSE) Invited review mechanism, which provides expert objective independent advice to healthcare organisations, in order to uphold standards of service delivery and the safe care of patients.

Carrie  co-leads The Working Party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery (WPSMS) which is supported by the RCSE to investigate sexual misconduct in the surgical workforce. The WPSMS published  data in the British Journal of Surgery in 2023, accompanied by the Breaking the Silence report. This report made recommendations and a  one year update on progress followed in 2024.

The WPSMS is committed to bringing about cultural change in healthcare.

Nick Petrie is a researcher and speaker on leadership, resilience and burnout prevention. His clients include: Google, Salesforce, Walmart, Home Depot, NASA, Wells Fargo, Kellogg's, and Comcast. He has worked globally across industries including; engineering, tech, banking, pharmaceuticals, energy, law, retail and television.

He holds a Master degree from Harvard University and is the co-author of the book Work Without Stress: Building resilience for long term success.
