LIONZ Forum 2025

Saturday 7th - Sunday 8th June
Fable Hotel | Dunedin

Kia ora & Welcome!

Our next meeting will be held at the Fable Hotel in Dunedin.

This year we kick off the morning session with presentations focusing on wellbeing and resilience, an important topic in an increasingly stretched workforce, with record rates of burnout.

Nick Petrie and Fiona Moir will speak to this and Fiona will run a workshop.
We also have Professor Carrie Newlands beaming in from the United Kingdom speaking on
harassment and wellbeing in trainees.

Saturday afternoon will feature the ever popular sawbones workshop, aimed to encourage medical students, house officers and junior registrars to
give orthopaedics a go. Previous delegates reported coming away from it feeling empowered and inspired!

On Saturday night we have a beautiful dinner planned at Lanarch Castle with two presentations; one will be the Mane Award, this award is presented to a male colleague who has gone above and beyond in their support of women in Orthopaedics and promotion of diversity. The second award we are really excited about; ‘Legends in orthopaedics’ where we invite a senior surgeon (male or female) to speak to us about their careers, lessons learnt, challenges faced, and whether they would do anything differently.

We will conclude the meeting with a half day session on Sunday morning with a ‘how to do research’ session and a mentoring session for the junior registrars. A key part of our forum is to inspire female medical students to consider orthopaedics as a viable career option, and to expose them to potential role models and mentors.

Thank you for supporting our event and helping us to promote diversity and wellbeing in orthopaedics.
We can’t wait to work with you to champion women and diversity in orthopaedic surgery!
